Vertebrate brain - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The vertebrate brain is the main part of the central nervous system. It is protected by the skull and close to the main senses of vision, hearing, balance, taste, and smell. As an animal moves forward, its senses collect data about the surroundings, and that data goes directly to the brain.
Brains are extremely complex. The brain controls the other organs of the body, either by activating muscles or by causing secretion of chemicals such as hormones and neurotransmitters. Muscular action allows rapid and coordinated responses to changes in the environment; hormones and the autonomic nervous system make slower changes in the body. In vertebrates, the spinal cord by itself can cause reflex responses as well as simple movement such as swimming or walking. At the same time, during the course of evolution, the vertebrate brain has undergone changes, and become more effective. In so- called 'lower' animals, most or all of the brain structure is inherited, and therefore their behaviour is mostly instinctive.
In mammals, and especially in man, the brain is developed further during life by learning. This has the benefit of helping them fit better into their environment.
The capacity to learn is seen best in the cerebral cortex. It has input from sense organs and output to muscles. It is connected in several ways with the endocrine system, which makes hormones, and the digestive system and sex system.
Hormones work slowly, so those changes are gradual. The brain is a kind of department store. It has, all inter- connected, departments which do different things. They all help each other gather senses. Much of what the body does is not conscious.
A person breathes, heart beats, intestines digest, hair grows, thoughts pop into their mind.. Some of this can be noticed by a person, and some (like breathing) can be influenced to some extent. But, basically, much of the body runs on automatic, adjusted by the autonomic nervous system. The brain, too, does much of its work without a person noticing it. The unconscious mind refers to the brain activities which are seldom noticed.

What is DMT and its role in human consciousness? A look at the bizarre psychedelic drug known as The Spirit Molecule and the Rick Strassman experiments.
The parathyroid glands are two pairs of glands usually positioned behind the left and right lobes of the thyroid. Each gland is a yellowish-brown flat.
These functions may still be disputed to some degree. Starting from the back (or, in humans, the underneath part) the regions are: The hypothalamus is a small region at the base of the forebrain.
It is the central control station for sleep/wake cycles, control of eating and drinking, control of hormone release, and many other functions. It sits immediately above the pituitary gland, and secretes hormones into the gland. These hormones inhibit or stimulate the pituitary gland. The gland, in turn, makes hormones which affect the rest of the body. It is a collection of nuclei with various functions. It acts as a relay station, gathering sense information of all kinds (except olfactory) and passes it on to the cerebral cortex.
Also, it has a role in consciousness and sleep. There are action systems for several types of behaviour, including eating, drinking, defecation, and copulation. Removal of the cerebellum does not prevent an animal from doing anything in particular, but it makes actions hesitant and clumsy. This precision is not built- in, but learned by trial and error. Learning how to ride a bicycle is an example of a type of neural plasticity that may take place largely within the cerebellum. Its best studied function is to direct eye movements.
It also directs reaching movements. It gets strong visual inputs, and inputs from other senses which are useful in directing actions, such as auditory input in owls, input from the thermosensitive pit organs in snakes, etc. In some fish, such as lampreys, it is the largest part of the brain. It is involved in spatial memory and navigation in fishes, birds, reptiles, and mammals.
The main function of the basal ganglia seems to be selecting actions. They send inhibitory signals to all parts of the brain that can generate actions. In the right circumstances they release the inhibition, so that the action- generating systems can execute their actions. Rewards and punishments exert most important neural effects on the basal ganglia. It is involved in multiple functions, including olfaction and spatial memory. In mammals, where it dominates the brain, it controls functions from many subcortical areas.
It is a major brain component in many vertebrates, but much reduced in primates. Brain size increases with body size but not proportionally. Averaging across all mammals, it follows a power law, with an exponent of about 0. Predators tend to have larger brains. When the mammalian brain increases in size, not all parts increase at the same rate.

DMT: 'The Spirit Molecule' Explained. Share. What is DMT and its role in human consciousness?
An in- depth look at the bizarre psychedelic drug known as The Spirit Molecule. Dimethyltryptamine (or DMT). In the US. Dimethyltryptamine is classed as an illegal Schedule I drug.
Yet. many believe we produce DMT in our bodies naturally. What is this. mysterious substance and how is it connected with dreams, death and. OBEs? Let's take a detailed look at the facts about 'The Spirit Molecule'. What is DMT? DMT is a naturally occurring 'tryptamine'. Tryptamines. are a group of substances found in nature that. As you may know. serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the human brain - and one that. It's job (which we don't yet fully.
Other. tryptamines include melatonin (the hormone responsible for sleep). LSD. and of course DMT itself.
Where is DMT found? The only thing we really know with 1. DMT for several thousand years. In 1. 99. 0. two mummified human bodies were dug up near the Matanza River in.
Argentina. The mummies were very well preserved, both. With them was buried an.
When lab tested. and carbon dated it became evident the pipe had been used to smoke Anadenanthera colubrina var. The pipe was dated to 2. BC! The. Peruvians were reported to be carrying out the Ayahuasca ceremony from. Spanish and Portuguese missionaries. The practice of taking DMT - in. South America. consistently since at least 2. BC (and persists to this day).
Ayahuasca. uses a brewed preparation of two or more plants, which when imbibed. The. practice has become increasingly popular in the last decade, with. Ayshuca Tourism' on the rise and now officially 'a thing'. DMT is found in over 6. In fact, Terence Mc. Kenna. has referred to DMT as .
Although, the word gentle is probably a bad choice for a. However, since DMT was first synthesised in the lab in. Just what are the DMT effects? The effects of DMT are possibly the strangest of any other psychoactive drug known to man. In fact, the DMT effects are so strange that many would refer to them as something more akin to a 'journey' than a mere 'trip'. Smoking. synthetic DMT has become the most popular route of administration these days, outside of shamanic Ayahuasca ceremonies.
The effects. begin within 1. In reality. the person will appear to be unconscious or asleep for this time. Possible ego. death. Increased pulse rate, blood pressure and respiration. But simple doesn't. DMT justice. So what exactly is a DMT trip like then? Windows Xp Mode Virtual Pc Crack.
A DMT trip literally transports you to another reality. Users report access to a completely different plane of consciousness. Curiously. all DMT trips are consistently reported as taking part in. In the first stage - within the first 3.
In the second stage - at around the 1 minute. DMT hyperspace'. This is where the real. I won't even try to describe it! All I will say is. Thirdly, users then 'return' back to.
But most interestingly of all, users of DMT consistently report contact with entities. In fact, over 5. 0% of people tripping on DMT.
The. entities are often said to be mischievous or playful. Sometimes. 'guiding', 'helping', or offering insights to us. On. top of this a DMT trip involves intense visual halucinations. The. phychadelic phenonama of swirling colours, shifting fractals - .
The. feeling of doing DMT is as though one had been struck by noetic. The ordinary world is almost instantaneously replaced, not. Nothing in this world can prepare one for the. DMT sensorium. It's. I lost my body. There were spirals that reminded me. I've seen at Chaco Canyon. Maybe that was DNA.
Maybe the. ancients knew that. The DNA is backed into the universe like space. One needs to travel without one's body. It's ridiculous to. After a moment or two I became aware of something. I saw a psychedelic, Day- Glo- colored space that.
It was throbbing and pulsing electrically. Rising in front of.
It seemed that some presence was. I wanted to know where I was and. The presence was not. Then there. was this loud intense hum. It was like the fan at first, but separate. I let go into it and then..
WHAM! I. felt like I was in an alien laboratory, in a hospital bed like this.. There were beings.. They. had a space ready for me. They weren't as surprised as I was. It was. incredibly un- psychedelic. I was able to pay attention to detail.
There. was one main creature, and he seemed to be behind it all, overseeing. The others were orderlies, or dis- orderlies. They. activated a sexual circuit, and I was flushed with an amazing orgasmic. A goofy chart popped up like an X- ray in a cartoon, and a. They were checking my instruments, testing. When I was coming out, I couldn't help but think 'aliens'. I. am so disappointed I didn't talk to them.
I was confused and in awe. I. knew that they were preparing me for something. Somehow we had a. They had things to show me. But they were waiting for me to. I don't mean like you feel you're in another dimension, you're in another dimension. There's. f***ing complex geometric patterns moving in synchronies order through.
It's like they're. And. there's an alien communicating with me who looks sort of like a Tai.
Buddha, except he's entirely made of energy and there's no outline to. He's concentrating and telling me not to give into astonishment. The research generated a wealth of biological and. Strassman managed to reproduce mystical and religious. Skeptics could say, then, that.
It makes you see things that aren't. And it explains thousands of historical accounts of paranormal.
On the other hand, the. Volunteers. described bizarre visions of alien life forms - even subjects that.
It genuinely provokes the question: is DMT a door to an alternate. Can this drug really be the trigger that facilitates contact with other dimensions or parallel universes?
DMT aliens - really? The question of DMT and aliens is one that deserves real consideration! Given that this bizarre drug consistently invokes the same kind of. The. experience of taking synthetic DMT is so intense that many believe it.
Let's examine the matter from a rationalist perspective. We. already know that the human mind is capable of inventing intricate. Alternative realities formed of such strikingly detailed worlds that. In fact these experiences can feel just a real as. This happens to every one of us - in our dreams! Do. you believe that the worlds you travel to in your dreams are real?
Or. are they simply a reflection of the incredible power of the human mind? It starts to become such a tricky question to answer that one really has to begin to examine: what is reality? Much. of the argument or theories one way or the other - and as speculated by. Strassman himself in his book - come down to the hypothesis that DMT is. DMT in the brain - fact or fiction? Is there really DMT in the brain?
There. are many websites and online communities that will swear blind that. DMT is produced in the pineal gland'. In fact, this is a central. Strassman's theories. But is this a fact backed up by.
We do know that DMT has been found in the pineal gland of rats. But so far there have been no peer- reviewed studies on humans brains. However. experimenting on 'rats first' is common practice in our modern world, so it's far from beyond the realm of plausibility. DMT. The. theory is a popular one, as many believe the pineal gland to be. And let's be honest, it does bear a striking resemblance to the Eye of Horus in ancient Egyptian culture! Certainly this tiny gland - . More. deeply protected than any other place.
It is also the only area of the human. It. seems apt then that such a central part of brain would play a central. Could this tiny gland and the DMT it secretes be. The general theory. By somehow activating this natural. As appealing as this idea is, it remains at this time a theory only.
Unproven, yet tantalisingly realistic. Could it be that the. DMT during REM sleep? It certainly seems viable. After all, lucid dreaming has been scientifically proven.
Of. course, when dreaming, we more readily accept these being as reflections.
